We practice at Core Power Yoga in Denver and this weekend they hosted a series of workshops with Darren Main, Yogi and Author. My wife attended all 3 workshops, but I was only able to make it to one. “Yoga Breathing With Darren Main”.
The workshop was scheduled for 3 hours and I really had no idea what to expect. I actually expected it to be a hatha flow practice with heavy focus on breathing. Things like “breath in through your left nostril and out through the right…” that I have tried to do and could not without the assistance of plugging a nostril with my finger.
And the thought of 3 hours of yoga after my 16 mile training run did not make me all that excited to go, however some good people told me it was a must go to event.
Enough with the anxiety of what it could have been and on to what it really was….
It was awesome!
The first portion of the workshop Darren (who is an incredibly down to earth and entertaining yogi) prepped us all for what we were about to do. And then we got to the yoga breathing, which is very similar to what you are probably dong right now.
Air goes in then air goes out, reapeat…
Only difference was we breathed with intention for about an hour. The things that come up are incredible! emotions, visuals, aches, pains, pleasures, euphoric feelings, tears, laughter, and just flat out spontaneous combustions of whatever was stored inside.
One of the coolest practices I have ever participated in.
So now when I return to yoga, I have a much deeper appreciation for the breath and what it means to my practice. I started yoga for the physical benefits, and now the spiritual benefits are just as powerful.
