This was a fun triathlon. It was my first one of the season and what a way to start. Perfect weather and 5430 sports put on a great event.

The swim was in the boulder reservoir, .5 mile. Water was chilly at first, but turned out to be just perfect. I only got kicked a couple times, and for the first time in a swim, I actually noticed the difference while drafting off another racers wake. It was pretty cool. The water was pretty calm anyway, I took the mindset of a practice day/workout, rather than a haul ass “sprint”.

The bike is where I struggled most. It was short, only 17 miles on smooth rolling hills. But given that I have only ridden a couple times this year, my backside wasn’t too thrilled. So, in short, it was an uncomfortable ride. That’s my own fault. Also, I removed my aero bars for the race because I lost an end-plug. It was frustrating, but there could have been worse scenarios. The ride was smooth, beautiful, and fairly simple for a rider that was prepared. I was not…

When it came to the run, I was thrilled because this is my strongest area. I’m not fast, but I can keep moving. It was a nice 5K out and back along the boulder reservoir, mostly on a dirt path.

Overall a great sprint and I would recommend it to anyone.

Post race goodies included a little trophy type thing, eggs, pancakes, watermelon, and some other goodies. It was a great morning. And I would like to thank 5430 sports for this event and look forward to the Olympic and Long Distance triathlons coming up in the next months.
